The project is led by the UFCW Local 770, the union of essential grocery, drug retail workers, meatpacking, cannabis, and healthcare workers in Southern California. For a year, the members of UFCW have been on the frontlines. Six-thousand union members have been infected with COVID-19 and several have passed. The project was made possible by a strong partnership of unions, worker centers, foundations, and other nonprofits focused on supporting people at work.

All photography, videography, and reporting by Sam Comen. ‘The Longest Shift’ was produced by Elizabeth Brennan of BerlinRosen.
